SWEET TALK
Have you ever heard a child sweet talk his/her way out of something? I just got my taste of being sweet talked out of finishing her dinner. Kayla my stepdaughter, is 5 yrs old and is going to school. Somehow, she must have heard and learned a lot of things and words not just from the teacher but also from her classmates. Kayla has this sporadic appetite for food, on some days she eats like a horse never seems to get full and there are days that she barely eats at all. On days where she eat a lot i try to give her a lot of nutritious foods, she does get her fix of junk foods though after she has her breakfast, lunch or dinner. She doesn’t seem to be gaining weight at all, still thin as a bean pole.
On days where she barely has an appetite are days where patience are tested. For the past couple of days she has been trying to sweet talk her way out of finishing her dinner. At first it was her daddy, of course daddy being the softy always gives in.
The conversation:
Kayla : Daddy, can i take two more bites and be done?
Daddy : Kayla you barely ate your dinner sweetheart.
Kayla : But daddy!
Daddy : If you don’t eat then your never going to get out of the table.
Kayla : Daddy, if you let me take 2 more bites, i’ll lover you!
Daddy : oh sweetheart! ok two more big bites and you can be done (getting a frowning stare from me)
And that ladies and gentleman is how Kayla sweet talks her daddy out of eating her dinner. Well, she tried that on me just last night. Daddy was working overtime so she knew she was going to have to pull out the big guns this time to impress me, the bad cop!
Kayla : Menie, can i take 2 more bites and be done?
Me : Kayla, you haven’t been eating good lately and i want to see that food gone on your plate.
Kayla : I’ll be your menie! (she calls me menie)
Me : I’m already your menie
Kayla : I’ll be your bestfriend?!
Me : I’m already your bestfriend
Kayla : I will love you forever?!
Me : (trying not to smile) You already love me.
MIL then interrupts, oh how can you resist that? I couldn’t, so against my better judgement i told her she could take two more big bites and be done. And she gave me such a big smile and took not only 2 but 3 big bites of her food. Ahhh kids! They are smart and know how to butter you up. I cant wait until she tries that on my again, ill have to wait and see what other tricks she has up her sleeve. As for my youngest daughter, she already tries her thing to butter me up,grandma and daddy. We cant wait until she starts talking, she will be her sister’s little mimic doll ,lol
