CHRISTMAS BACK HOME

Published by melodyschif at 10:16 pm under life Edit This

I have been thinking a lot about how it was to spend Christmas back home in the Philippines. As early as September you can hear Christmas songs being played all over the place from the malls, offices, radio station to the public transportation. Its nostalgic spending Christmas holidays in my country. The weather is much cooler and the people and the place seem to be buzzing with more activities. We don’t really put emphasis on Santa on Christmas but more on the birth of our savior Jesus Christ.  Our kids do know who Santa is but we mostly associate Christmas as a religious holiday. We have the midnight mass, and the much awaited NOCHE BUENA. Its the equivalent of the Christmas Eve Dinner only we welcome and celebrate on the eve of the 24th of December and stay up late until the wee morning of Christmas day. Most families and relatives stay and celebrate together. I left on Christmas Day almost 2 years ago. It was so painful for me to leave my family on that day but at least i got a chance to spend the day before with them. We had a small gathering to celebrate my departure to a new land and a new life. I  miss the noise, the exchanging of gifts, the children’s carolling and the fire crackers and the food. I miss my family back home and i wish i could spend a Christmas with them someday together with my husband and kids.
